La Canada - Flintridge

La Canada-Flintridge is a small, residential, highly affluent, incorporated city in the northern part of Los Angeles County located in the Crescenta Valley to the northeast of Glendale. La Crescenta-Montrose is to the west, Altadena is to the east, and the Angeles National Forest is to the north and northeast. Pasadena is to the southeast. The ski resorts of Mount Baldy, Mountain High, and Mount Waterman are located about thirty miles to the northeast of La Canada-Flintridge in the San Gabriel Mountains.

 

Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Although it has a Pasadena mailing address, the world famous Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is located in La Canada-Flintridge. JPL is managed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

 

Descanso Gardens

Descanso Gardens is a 150 acre botanical garden in La Canada-Flintridge established in 1953 after the site was donated to Los Angeles County by the former owner of the Los Angeles Daily News, E. Manchester Boddy. Descanso Gardens is one of the most beautiful places in the county and is home to the 22 room Boddy House built in 1937. The home is currently open for docent conducted tours on most weekends.

 

La Canada Flintridge Country Club

La Canada Flintridge Country Club, established in 1962, is a private club that offers golf, tennis, swimming, family activities, dining, and more. The banquet facilities are available to the public for weddings and other social events. Memberships are available. The views from the clubhouse and golf course are absolutely beautiful.

 

San Rafael Hills

The San Rafael Hills are a mountain range in Los Angeles County and include all or part of La Canada Flintridge, EI Sereno, Monterey Hills, Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Montecito Heights, Mount Washington and Eagle Rock. They run parallel and below the San Gabriel Mountains to the south adjacent to the San Gabriel Valley and overlooking the Los Angeles Basin at many locations. The San Rafael Hills define the valley area of Pasadena and San Marino and were inhabited by the Tongva People for
thousands of years before the area was claimed by Spain and later by Mexico.

 

Lanterman House

The Lanterman House serves as the historic museum for the city of La Canada-Flintridge. Completed in 1915, the 11,250 square foot historic home is located on 1.4 acres of beautiful gardens surrounded by oak trees. The museum, which is open to the public, offers rotating exhibits on the' history of La Canada-Flintridge and the surrounding communities.

 

Mount Waterman

Mt. Waterman Ski Area

Waterman Mountain, commonly referred to as Mt. Waterman, is an 8,030 foot mountain and popular Southern California ski area in the San Gabriel Mountains and Angeles National Forest in Los Angeles County. Mount Waterman is located north of Pasadena, northeast of La Canada-Flintridge, and directly east of La Crescenta. A private ski resort
has leased most of the mountain and provides services.
