El Cajon, California

 

EI Cajon, incorporated in 1912, is a city in San Diego County located about 17 miles east of Downtown San Diego. The city takes its name from Rancho EI Cajon, a 48,000-acre Mexican land grant given by Governor Pio Pico in 1845. The city is bordered by San Diego and La Mesa on the west, Spring Valley on the south, Santee on the north, and unincorporated San Diego County on the east. Communities within EI Cajon include Bostonia, Fletcher Hills, and Rancho San Diego.

 

Gillespie Field

Gillespie Field is a public, county owned, towered airport established in 1942 as Camp Gillespie. The airport covers 758 acres and has three paved runways. The airport is located about 11.5 miles northeast of Downtown San Diego in EI Cajon. An average of 630 aircraft operations take place daily. There are an average of 550 aircraft based at the airport which is the home of the restoration facility for the San Diego Air and Space Museum.

 

Grossmont College

Grossmont College, established in 1961, is a 135-acre public community college in EI Cajon which is in eastern San Diego County. Gro~smont College together with Cuyamaca Community College make up the Grossmont - Cuyamaca College District. Enrollment currently exceeds 18,000 students. The college offers the Associate of Arts degree and the Associate of Science degree plus more than 150 certificate programs.

 

Cuyamaca College

Cuyamaca College, established in 1978, is a 165-acre public community college in Rancho San Diego which is in eastern San Diego County. Cuyamaca College together with Grossmont College make up the Grossmont - Cuyamaca College District. Enrollment currently exceeds 10,000 students. The college offers the Associate of Arts degree and the Associate of Science degree plus more than 66 training certification programs.

 

EI Cajon Mountain

EI Cajon Mountain, also referred to as EI Capitan and EI Cap, is a 3,677 foot mountain in the Cuyamaca Mountains and a highly prominent landmark in East County-San Diego.

EI Cajon Historical Society

The EI Cajon Historical Society is a non-profit, membership organization that is responsible for preserving and providing tours of The Knox House Museum constructed in 1876 as part of a residence and hotel built by Amaziah Lord Knox. The hotel was the first commercial building constructed in EI Cajon. The property is available for docent conducted tours on certain weekends.
